Chicken Noodle Soup & Bagels

Continuing with a long time Tompkins family tradition, Spencer made homemade bagels and homemade chicken noodle soup on Sunday afternoon for Halloween. His brother and two of mine and their families came, along with my parents and two other families that are our good friends. It was a full house but the weather was gorgeous so half of us were on the patio. It was a good time and things were going well, but then half way through the second batch of bagels suddenly the power all went out. It was close to seven o'clock and it was totally pitch black. That basically put a stop to the cooking but people kept visiting and playing and seemed like it was still a good time. There were 500 people in our county and 1,000 people in the next county over that all lost power that night. It didn't come back on until about 10:30pm. Pretty annoying! We still had fun and are glad that everyone came! I would have gotten pictures of everyone, but after only a few were taken, I couldn't see the camera hanging around my neck anymore. =)

My dad is 62 years old and has never eaten a bagel before. Not store bought or homemade or anything. He has had the opportunity before on previous Halloweens when the Gordens join with the Tompkins, but never was interested. Until this year!!! We all think the homemade bagels are way better than having it any other way, and Spencer knows more than anyone how much hard work goes in to making them. So he was thrilled when my dad wanted to eat one this year! Look how happy he is doing it! We eagerly awaited his reaction and we all agreed when he finally said, "Its just bread!" =)

As Spencer stated, "It was anti-climactic for him, but very climactic for me!" This totally made Spencer's day!
