The Human Maco Shark

Much has been written and said of Michael Phelps in the past week and a half, and while his journey is not over i thought i'd share some of my favorite things. A couple of different comments on ESPN.com stories about his apparent lack of competition suggested that he won't have competition until he either a.) Really races a shark or b.) Clones himself and races Michael Phelps. I thought those were funny. The must see race of the Olympics is the Men's 4X100 freestyle relay. Seriously, for all his skill and dominance Phelps shows so much heart. He's the ultimate competitor. Just to put his winnings into perspective i heard on ESPN Radio that Phelps had won more Olympic Gold Medals than Mexico or the 2nd most populous country in the world India. So i investigated on Wikipedia.org and found that Phelps has more medals (summer or winter) than 68 different countries have in their history using this list. He also has more Gold Medals than 92 different countries in their history. Granted some of these are very small or poor countries, but some on the list are Mexico, India, North Korea, Iran, and Iraq. All countries with resources. Also most of Central and South America are on the "less than Phelps" list. The crazy thing is that he has a chance to pass several more countries in the next few days and even more if he swims in London at age 27. Still arguably in a swimmers prime. Jason Lezak, who anchored the 4X100 relay, is 32. Go Phelps Go!

We just read an article that said Phelps had faulty swim goggles during the 200m Fly and he still got a world record! Amazing!

Yeah, he pretty much tore apart his competition. I loved the 4x100 freestyle relay. That was one of the most unbelievable finishes that I have ever seen. And they broke the world record by 3.99 seconds. And Lezak swam the fastest 100 in history even though it doesn't count. My heart was racing. His 100m fly was an unbelievable finish as well. .01 seconds faster than the next guy. All I can say is Phelps is Unreal.
